Student Life

The fact that the University has created a Student Union shows how it wishes to place students at the heart of university democracy. It generates a strong feeling of belonging and it improves their lives as students.

Students entirely involved in decision-making

While students are provided with the means that ensure the independence of their unions (premises, reprography charters), they are proactive players in university life.
They participate on different boards and they are aware of their elected representative role. This shows how dynamic the unions are and it justifies the implementation of technical training to help them accomplish their assignments.
A board of elected student members helps promote democratic debates and enables students to share their experiences.
The student status of the CEVU’s vice-president, emphasizes the resolve to involve students in the University’s activities.

Promoting the emergence of a real student community and links between students

The University resorts to voluntarist efforts in its premises (the layout of the common rooms) and actively works at making the university’s project of creating a place for students to interact in the heart of the Latin Quarter a success.
A student party, at the beginning of each year, encourages the development of a Paris-Sorbonne identity. The “Association des anciens“ also has that same objective.

Improving the quality of student life and helping students to integrate

Enrolment procedures have been simplified and a handicap charter has been implemented. The department seeks to encourage free expression through specific means of communication (messaging services, student Web site, newsletters, forums).
Tutorials, which aim at helping students to find a job, take on a social role, by developing team work and by finding students who encounter the most problems, in order to orient them towards the appropriate services.
The University promotes health education (prevention, recovery and health awareness) in liaison with the preventive medical services, the tutors, the social workers and the University’s department for sports and physical activities (“le Service universitaire des activités physiques et sportives”, “SUAPS”).

Information system

A course for all

Paris-Sorbonne has to ensure that the network and the IT infrastructure that associates all its different Centres work well. Appropriate management tools are also available for students. Finally, both students and staff have the possibility to attend courses.

A user-friendly IT system

Through the implementation of a Digital Work Environment, under the auspices of the “Université Numérique en Région”, as well as a wireless network everywhere where it is possible and of an office that lends laptops, Paris-Sorbonne wishes to put a slant on a user-friendly IT system that students and staff can use. Promoting access to information, developing technology that supports the supervisory team of the University and that strengthens its teaching (TICE, Moodle platform) are priorities for the future. Integrating information systems is the best way to achieve our goals.
